The Ultimate DIY Water Filter! – The "2 Stage" (carbon+heated coil) purifier! – uses no electricity!

Ultimate DIY Water Filter! This Homemade Water Purifier is extremely effective and super easy to make. The “2 Stage” design purifies almost all water sources to 99.999%. Starts to produce clean/clear (super hot) water within 20 seconds! uses no electricity. great to have in a SHTF/Emergency situation or for everyday use. *also doubles as a water heater and stove burner!. you can cook on top of the coil at the same time the water is heating/purifing! water purifier, water heater and stove all in one! *and with the exception of the activated carbon and the copper coil, the filter is made almost entirely out of “free stuff” (recycled/reused metal cans, plastic bottle, glass jar – along with sand and gravel). note that the “1st stage” of the filter (activated carbon part) removes predominantly the chemical impurities (along with bad taste/color/odor/sediment). while the “2nd stage” (heated coil) predominantly removes the biological contaminants (parasites/bacteria/viruses etc…) when used together they’re extremely effective as a filtering system. should purify almost all water sources. note – one of the few things it won’t remove is salt from salt water and certain minerals. of interest: total length of copper tubing is 10 ft. tubing is 1/4″. a crumpled up piece of coffee filter paper can be used in place of the cotton balls. i was able to purifiy 12oz of water every 3 mins or so (about 1/2 gallon every 15 mins). it uses about 25 cents worth of 70% isopropyl alcohol to purify a gallon. (i imagine in a pinch, since the can that holds the copper coil is very similar to a tin can stove, you could use small sticks, twigs and leaves as a fuel source instead of the alcohol). Of note: it only “steams up” for a few seconds every few minutes or so. most of the time the flow of escaping water vapor/steam is light and barely visible.

Berkey Water Filter - Introductory Video to the Line of Berkey Water Filters

Berkey Water Filter – Introductory Video to the Line of Berkey Water Filters

First time hearing about the Berkey Water Filter? This video will introduce you to the Berkey family and provide a high-level overview of these amazing water purification systems.

The berkey water filter is considered the gold standard in water purification due to the high purification rates the filters achieve. Unlike other filters systems that can only be labeled as a water filter, the berkey systems are considered water purifiers because they remove bacteria to levels higher than 99.9999%.

The berkey systems also remove other chemicals and contaminants to undetectable levels. Combine these high removal rates along with the fact that the black berkeys last 6000 gallons per set of 2 filters and one begins to understand the power of these amazing systems.

The other benefit of the berkey water filters is their ability to fit an add-on fluoride filter in the lower chamber. Individuals are waking up to the fact that fluoride added to their water is not good for human health. The Berkey PF-2’s give the user the ability to remove this from their water.

Water Purification Options for Cannabis Production

Water Purification Options for Cannabis Production

Water Purification Options for Cannabis Production

Professor DeBacco

What Purification/Filtration is
Water purification is the process of removing undesirable chemicals, biological contaminants, suspended solids, and gases from water.
There are a variety of method that can be used which is in part dependent on the initial water conditions and what is the target substance to be removed.

Water Volume vs Quality
Growers need to have a water purification system that will supply enough volume of water for the amount of plants they are growing
However, depending on the type of water that is initially incoming into the facility this can impact the type of purification system used.
Sometimes to get the proper quality of water takes time which can reduce the volume produced.
If this is under what is required by the plants there will be issues.
Also, growers need to factor in the volume their plants will consume on a hot day at full maturity.

Hard vs Soft Water
Hard Water:
Has a high content of dissolved minerals as hard, which are primarily high calcium and magnesium content. (Measured in milligrams of calcium salts per liter of the water.)
200-400 mg/L is the range for hard water while
400-550 mg/L is for very hard.
Typical tap water 170-390 mg/L. While it is not dangerous to humans, consuming this type of water can be harmful to cannabis.
Soft Water:
Soft water contains very little minerals to none at all.
Under 150 mg/L is very soft
150-200 mg/L is simply soft.
Rain water, purified, ionized, and distilled water is an example of soft water
*With rain water once it collects soil particles and minerals the harness scale will go up.

Reverse Osmosis
Advantages
Essentially produces “pure” water with an EC of -0- and -0- ppm
Disadvantages
Slow process
Generates waste water (not harmful) just not used
Membranes need replacement to prevent potential for microbe contamination

Tap Water
Advantages
Easy, come directly out of the tap
Disadvantages
Can have potential contaminants
May restrict what nutrients a grower can add

Carbon Filtration
Advantages
Effective at removing chlorine, volatile organic compounds (VOC), taste and odor.
Can remove sediment (but this will reduce the filters useful “life expectancy”)
Disadvantages
Does not remove minerals, salts and dissolved organic substances

Sediment Filtration
Advantages
Removes physical particles from water
Often used as a prefilter before other filtration methods to increase their longevity
Disadvantages
Only removes particles not chemicals or contaminants

The finer the screen typically the slower the flow rate

UV Water Filter & Purification Systems How They Work - FreshWaterSystems.com

UV Water Filter & Purification Systems How They Work – FreshWaterSystems.com

Who Uses a UV Water Filter System and How a UV System Work?

See All Viqua UV Water Filter & Purification Systems:

It looks good. It tastes OK, but is your drinking water safe for everyone to drink?

Dangerous levels of harmful bacteria and viruses in drinking water cannot always be detected by sight, smell or taste.
If your home’s water comes from a private source, such as a well, you are solely responsible for its disinfection and treatment. And a UV water filter system is a highly effective, chemical-free water purification method.

If your water comes from a municipal or city source, the treatment plant follows rules and regulations for disinfection. Before entering your home however, your drinking water passes through miles of an aging water pipe system. Breaks in the system such as damaged pipes and broken water mains can allow dangerous contaminant into your drinking water such as bacteria and viruses – a common cause of boil water advisories.

Among the ordinary events that can cause contaminant to leach into wells and surface water sources are heavy rainfall, melting snow, agricultural run-off and industrial pollution.

Before it flows from your faucet, how can you make sure your water is safe to drink? Disinfect and purify your drinking water with eco-friendly UV or Ultraviolet light.

What is a UV Water Purification System?

Before water enters the UV chamber for purification, it needs to be clarified. A sediment pre-filter, such as a 5 micron filter, ensures the water is clear enough for effective UV light disinfection. Next, an activated carbon filter improves the water’s taste.

Water then enters a stainless Steel chamber which houses the purifying UV light inside a transparent quartz sleeve. Many systems feature a 365 day counter to notify you when it is time to replace the UV lamp.

How does Ultraviolet Water Treatment System purify and Disinfect Drinking Water?

The germicidal energy of ultraviolet light destroys illness-causing microorganisms by attacking the DNA at their genetic core. This eliminates the organisms’ ability to reproduce, rendering them harmless.

UV water purification systems eliminates 99.99% of the harm viruses and bacteria like E.coli can cause. The same is true of harmful protozoa such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium which are chlorine-resistant and a difficult challenge for many water systems.

With a quality Viqua (Sterlight or UVMax) UV water filter system you can be sure your water has been disinfected, purified, and is safe to drink whether your water is from a well or municipal water supply. Learn more by visiting: or calling 877.335.3339.

Installing the Essence Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration System

Installing the Essence Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration System

Quick and easy installation of my brothers Apec Essence ROES 50 water filtration system.

Ran over to my brothers house to install the under-sink water filter he purchased off Amazon. The water cooler they had been using with the standard 5 gallon jugs had bit the dust prompting a different solution. The install went very smooth, all the parts were easy to fit together, and it took just a few tools to get right. It takes up a bit of space under the sink but no more hauling gallons of water back from the grocery store!
