Make A Water Filtration System Clean Water Science Lab Demonstrated

This is a demonstration of the clean water science lab I recently purchased. It teaches you the basics of water filtration and purification. There are multiple experiments in the box. For today I am trying out the water filter.

This is the same principal used by the large water treatment plants in the city.

You can use this idea to make your own clean water filter for your off grid home.

Pelican PC600 Water Filtration System | Full Install

Pelican PC600 Water Filtration System | Full Install

What’s IN your water? I noticed my water tasted funny if I left it in a cup overnight. I noticed an orange-colored residue left in places where water sat (showers and such). I started researching what was IN my water and it was scary. I went to www.ewg.org/tapwater and found a number of contaminants that are well above any federally mandated levels.

I picked up the Pelican Water PC600 and this is start to finish… research, install, and enjoyment of this fantastic filtration system.

MSR Trailshot water filter review – ultralight backpacking filter

The MSR Trailshot microfilter is a great backpacking water filter enabling you to always have clean water when you are outdoors. It’s water treatment removes 99.99% of bacteria, protozoa and particulates. It’s filtration goes down to 0.2 microns and is perfect as a survival filter or for camping situations. In my opinion it’s easier to use than It’s competitor, the Sawyer Mini water filter but performs equally well on the trail.

Which do you prefer? The Sawyer filter or the MSR Trailshot?

Please note that it is not a water purifier and won’t remove pesticides or chemicals.

DIY Home Water Filtration System: Rainwater Harvesting with a Biological Sand Filter and Maintenance

DIY Home Water Filtration System: Rainwater Harvesting with a Biological Sand Filter and Maintenance

Our off grid home water filtration system is built on-site with 0.35mm filter sand and IBC totes. This advanced DIY rainwater harvesting system design is gravity fed and a resilient way to establish water security in uncertain times. Maintenance is super easy and very infrequent. We use a series of three rainwater harvesting tanks made from IBC totes as the rainwater collection tank, with a biosand slow sand filter tank design and 10,000 gallon underground rainwater cistern.
In this video, we explain the design using a 3D sketchup model that shows the details of our residential rainwater collection system that uses a biological slow sand filter (biosand filter). My goal was to build the best low maintenance drinking water filter for residential use. Most biosand filters are manual use and not automated. I show you how I was able to design and install a rainwater harvesting system at home using primitive sand filter media and create the ultimate solution to water scarcity. Our rainwater system is a site-built underground concrete cistern that utilitzes the foundation walls of our storage shed (with a concrete floor and concrete tank floor) to hold 10,000 gallons of clean rainwater.
