Leak could leave Wellington residents without water for several days, mayor says

WELLINGTON, Ohio (WJW) — A boil alert is in effect for the city of Wellington until further notice.
Mayor Hans Schneider says residents could be without water for two to three days.
Mayor Hans Schneider said a 12 inch water line near the village’s reservoir broke Friday night. He said an estimated 1.1 million gallons of water leaked out, draining the village’s entire water system by early Saturday morning.
The line was repaired Saturday and water restored to the village’s 5,000 residents by afternoon.
However, Schneider said a boil order was put in place as crews flushed hydrants, monitored pressure and conducted tests to ensure the water is safe to drink. He said the order is expected to end Monday morning at the earliest.
“We certainly appreciate the residents’ patience and understanding. It had to be miserable to wake up this morning, on one of the hottest days of the year, to no water,” Schneider said. “But, we put together a plan: keep residents informed, fix the issues and then find a way to get good water into residents hands until we can get our good water back through their taps.”
Schneider said the village plans to continue distributing cases of water at Village Hall Sunday.
